Pissing Off Divorce Lawyers

I'd posted this on my blog back in August, as one of my first posts, when my blog was in the neonatal unit: http://bedroom-to-courtroom.blogspot.com/2010/08/how-to-piss-off-your-divorce-lawyer-top.html

I tweaked it for the Huffington Post last week,  and it posted there yesterday, with huge (not all positive :

  1. The legal system affects nearly every aspect of our society, from buying a home to crossing the street. Lawyers form the backbone of this system, linking it to society in numerous ways. They hold positions of great responsibility and are obligated to adhere to a strict code of ethics.Lawyers, also called attorneys, act as both advocates and advisors in our society. As advocates, they represent one of the parties in criminal and civil trials by presenting evidence and arguing in court to support their client. As advisors, lawyers counsel their clients about their legal rights and obligations and suggest particular courses of action in business and personal matters. Whether acting as an advocate or an advisor, all attorneys research the intent of laws and judicial decisions and apply the law to the specific circumstances faced by their clients.

  2. Thanks so much for your comments, Shane, and welcome to BtoC!

It's sad, no, actually kinda upsetting, to be the brunt of such venomous attacks and jeers so often and so publicly.

I understand the anger, especially with the divorce bar. We come in during the worst time in people's lives, we cost a LOT of money, cases spin out of control and take far longer than expected, and we are easy to blame for all the problems.

Still, sometimes the rage is justified, especially when the lawyers are just dabblers in family law and are inept, inexperienced or -- we've all had them in our cases --just plain blowhards....!!!!
